climate control

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

I want to provide in my car a climate control system independent of the car's AC, heating, engine running or cranking battery.

I want to be able to heat, or cool, and dehumidify the air with a system running off an independent deep discharge battery.

Be keen to hear from anyone with any experience of doing this sort of thing.

Tom's theory of climate control, Don't over think anything, A ' hive' control will cost £zillions when a normal room stat is less than a tenner, Using that as a measuring stick and applied to car thermal control,

just open a window,,

I had mentioned on a previous thread that I could, as a last resort, use the car to stealth camp. Have equipped it with a full sized camp bed, camping quilt and privacy/insulation blinds for the glassware.

However, my intention of achieving cross flow ventilation via windows open a crack, is proving to be inadequate. Too much condensation is occurring.

Heating/cooling/ dehumidifying are high energy consumption. I have no intention of drawing their power from the car's cranking battery, or I risk being stranded.

Stealth camping in the car is never going to be my preferred default. If I have planned accordingly, I will stay in a hotel, or have my tent on board.

However, it comes in for dark skies visits, where camping is not allowed, and turning up at a hotel in the middle of the night is hardly feasible.

I have installed a solar panel to a leisure battery on my camper, It is not connected to the van supply and this coming year will be the acid test,It will run onboard lighting, a mini fridge , a shower and a ebike charger I'm planning to tour Scotland using 'wild camping' mostly but prepared to book in, here and there for comfort in a B+B or hotel depending on weather and insect infestation , So I'll be on a learning curve for that, Its a solo venture as my wife won't go if its not got a shop at every lamp post which is an untried venture in uncharted waters for me,

I've had a good tip from my Lad in Canada for that, He was on a golf course in May this year and the flies there are wicked, they form cloud like swarms and irritate the life out of anyone and everyone, Then a guy who was working on the course walked about and the swarms cleared from around him and so, My son asked him what is the secret to repelling the swarms,
and he told my son, My son told me and i will try it out and if it works, I'll tell you,
Watch this space in 2024 ,,,,,
